So now our shiny new Clearing Moisturiser’s dropped in our Oil Control range, your questions are coming in hot. We’re not ones to leave you hanging, so we’ve rounded up some of the most pressing queries in this handy article.
From when you should use the moisturiser to the skin types it’s best suited to, here are all (well, at least most) of your questions about our Clearing Moisturiser, answered! Put your feet up, peep the essential info below and prepare for a hydration transformation.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions about oily skin. And one we want to clear up once and for all. ALL skin needs hydration – including oily and acne-prone. Going without moisturiser can cause dehydration and trigger your skin to produce EVEN MORE oil. Not ideal, for obvious reasons.
Instead, make sure you choose an oil-free product or a moisturiser specially formulated for oily skin. Delivering lightweight, non-greasy hydration, our Clearing Moisturiser contains salicylic acid, Old Man Weed, niacinamide and prebiotics. This killer combo helps reduce sebum production, unclog pores, soothe skin and rebalance the microbiome.
Absolutely! While the Clearing Moisturiser addresses the root causes of acne, it’s also suitable for most skin types, including normal. However, due to its sebum-regulating, balancing properties, it’s most beneficial for those with oily or combination skin types.
It’s also a great product to switch to around your time of the month if you’re bothered by hormonal breakouts. Or your skin gets suddenly shinier.
If you’ve used oil-control or acne products before, you might be put off by their often drying and irritating effects. But it’s totally fine – and even recommended – to use our non-stripping Clearing Moisturiser daily. Morning and night.
Use after cleansing – ideally with our Clearing Cleanser, or the Australian Pink Clay Deep Pore Cleanser, which is your go-to for a bumpy, congested complexion or oversized pores. Also make sure you use the moisturiser to hydrate and soothe skin after a deep pore purge with our clay-based Clearing Face Mask. And remember, if you’re using it during the day, always complete your routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Ah, we’ve all been there. And we’re delighted to say this moisturiser won’t cause any pilling! Lightweight with an invisible, shine-free finish, it wears beautifully under makeup. Especially if you usually find yours sliding off your face around 1pm each day.
For dry skin, our Tasmanian Spring Water Hydration Boost Cream is a better fit. However, you might want to switch it up and use the Clearing Moisturiser instead on acne-prone areas with oily skin (perhaps your T-zone!).
While both our moisturisers hydrate and support the skin barrier and microbiome, they’re quite different. Our oil-control moisturiser is ideal for anyone with oily or acne-prone skin bothered by that greasy shine. With a lighter and more mattifying texture, it’s your go-to for daytime wear, when humidity is high, and as a makeup primer.
Our Hydration Boost Cream, on the other hand, is SUPER hydrating. You can definitely still use it in your routine. But it’s best to use it when oiliness is under control, at night, or in drier winter months.
Yes! The moisturiser is lightweight and gentle, meaning that it works perfectly after exfoliating, whether it's a chemical exfoliant like the Clearing Mask or a physical one like the Flash Perfection Exfoliator.
We also recommend spacing out applications so you’re not using the moisturiser after a retinol serum. Both retinol and alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids stimulate skin cell turnover, and are pretty strong actives. If you have sensitive skin, you might want to avoid using both in one sitting as it may lead to dryness and irritation.
The moisturiser pairs perfectly with the other products in our Oil Control range. It can also be used with over-the-counter anti-acne products, but remember that less is often more if you don’t want to compromise the skin barrier. Always introduce new products gradually to build up tolerance – and stop using if irritation occurs.
We also recommend speaking to your dermatologist for personalised skincare recommendations if you’re using prescription acne creams or medications.
While our Oil Control range is not an acne treatment range (it’s not acne medicine!), it will reduce the frequency and severity of your breakouts. How? By addressing the three major causes of acne – clogged pores, excess sebum and acne-causing bacteria – to give you clearer and healthier skin.
You bet! If you have red, sore, inflamed acne, our Clearing Moisturiser can help calm things down. This is thanks to the soothing and anti-inflammatory properties of our two Aussie botanical heroes, Old Man Weed and Tasmanian Pepperberry. As well as barrier-boosting, redness-reducing niacinamide.
We hope that answered all your questions and set you on the path to balanced and radiant skin.
